The Whit Friday Brass Band Contests
Well the Whit Friday Brass Band Contest has now passed and what a brave showing from all the people that attended even though we had a downpour through the event. In the spirit of things, it did not stop the large crowd from hearing the best of what was playing. Congratulations to all the winners and well done to all those that took part. So that’s it for another year and so we now look forward to the….yes…wait for it…
How time flies when the fun happens. Yes Folks…. this years event has now sadly passed and what a remarkable display of vintage military vehicles throughout the villages in Saddleworth. Credit must also go to all those shops, clubs, pubs, restaurants and everywhere that decorated the villages with flags and flowers. It was really impressive. It’s all about the film “Yanks” that was filmed in the Saddleworth area and featured,
Richard Gere, William Devane who are both U.S. soldiers stationed in England during World War II, soon to begin affairs with local British women but a clash of the two cultures set the sparks flying. Lisa Eichhorn plays the girl from the working class family that has captured the attention of Richard Gere where William Devane is chasing the elegant Vanessa Redgrave.
Singing their hearts out was the fabulous “Bailey Dolls”. They played in the Swan Pub and the Dobcross Band Club over the weekend. What a wonderful event and lets look forward to next years event. The weather held off too which made it all the more impressive. Congratulations to all the organisers.
